My First Two Weeks at ConnectCPA
The following is a post by Tracie Heier, CPA, CA who started at ConnectCPA on February 13, 2017 as a Manager:
I have now been employed with ConnectCPA for just over two weeks. To date, the experience has been pretty awesome. What initially attracted me to ConnectCPA was the way that they do accounting, in that, I thought “there has to be a better way” than the old-school method. After meeting with Mike and Lior I knew that it would be a good fit, they’re always willing to help, easily accessible, and truly want you to succeed.
I’m their first out-of-province hire, so my entire onboarding experience was done through the cloud. It was amazing how easily laid out all of their items are to get you up and running. After my first day, I had met almost the entire staff via Zoom (an app that they use for meetings), it made me feel like I was part of the office, even though I’m 4,000 km away. My first week was spent learning all about the new apps that ConnectCPA integrates into their services that they offer.
Through my previous experience in public accounting, I was familiar with their internal accounting, but to see all the different apps that are available to the actual business owner was an eye-opener, to say the least. I went in thinking “I should know how to use most of this stuff”, but after Day 2, I realized just how many apps are out there to help small business owners, and wondered “why hadn’t I known about these all along?”
There has been an adjustment to working remotely. Since we were three years old, and starting pre-school, we have always had a set schedule, people expecting you to show up on time for school, university and then your job. Now that I work virtually, I’m still responsible for “showing up”, but it’s a different kind of accountability. I’ve enjoyed the option to wake up early, and start my day well before I would normally be able to in Calgary (As Toronto is 2 time zones ahead), as I write this post it’s 9:30, which means today I’ve already been at work for 3 hours.
Overall the training, even though it’s remote, has been fairly seamless. The cloud software is really easy to use, the instructions are detailed, and the training is relevant.
